,,Immediately when I arrived, I felt at home.”
She studied as a medical secretary in France, but found her way to The Netherlands. Meet Chamica: a young woman who started a new life in the windiest country of Europe.
Chamica, what made you come to the Netherlands?
,,Honestly, I always wanted to experience life in the Netherlands but never had the right opportunity. Also, after having lived in France for 6 years I figured it was time for a change. The opportunities in The Netherlands are endless, so I decided to make a move.”
And how did you get in touch with a job in The Netherlands?
,,I was submitting my CV on several platforms for months. And one day I was searching for a job that would allow me to relocate to the Netherlands. And just like that, Labourlink was one of the first sites to pop up.”
How was the process of applying?
,,Very smooth! Everything was well explained. It was easy to get in touch with everyone from Labourlink. Something that stood out to me and what I really appreciated was the level of understanding of my situation. There were some complications during the process of moving. Fortunately I always had someone from Labourlink available that understood what was happening and it was very reassuring.”
What were the most important questions you had before coming to The Netherlands?
,,I had many questions. One of the main ones was housing. I wasn’t sure If I would have been placed in a safe environment or if the living situation would be good. After all, I would be dropping everything for a new start. So I was worried about putting myself in a difficult situation once I arrived. But immediately when I got to the Netherlands, I felt at home. And, more importantly: I have the best housemates too. That’s a bonus too.”
What was the most surprising about The Netherlands?
,,How windy it gets, haha! No actually, the transportation system. It might seem like it isn’t a big deal to the Dutch, but the Netherlands has the best transportation system I have ever seen. Every week I worked different hours and it is so easy to get to work and back. Getting around The Netherlands at any time is really easy.”
